Last Minute Inexpensive Holiday Gifts

With the economy still in recovery mode, not everyone has the ability to splurge and spend hundreds of dollars on holiday gifts. Instead of saving up for months to purchase gifts, why not try something new and think creatively. Believe it or not, you can still find plenty of personal, loving, and caring gifts at a reasonable price that your friends and family will love. Need ideas? Check out the list below for some ideas that will cost below $20.

Frame a Photo

This is a great last-minute gift. Go through the photos you have taken over the past couple of years and find a good one that would provoke a memory of a happy time. Save that image to a flash drive or CD and head over to your local department store. Most stores have photo centers where you can upload the photo, enlarge it, and print it out all within an hour. After it’s printed, head over to the frame section and find a nice frame to match. It’s simple, meaningful, and can cost as little as $10. Check out Walmart for some good discounts on developing photos.

Bake Cookies

Your first thought might not be to bake cookies and give them as a gift. However, it can be really sweet and extremely cost effective. You can start from scratch and make them completely yourself or you can run to the local grocery store and purchase a pre-mixed box of cookie mix. Sometimes they have special holiday-themed cookies like pumpkin on sale. After making the cookies, you can go to a local art or decorating store like Home Goods and pick up a glass jar. Put all the cookies in the glass jar and then decorate the top. The jar will become a nice keepsake that can be reused in the person’s home.

Create an Ornament

Nothing says holidays more than an ornament. You can really make one out of anything you have around the house. See an old mug that you have lying around? Well, decorate it and add some thick ribbon so the person you give it to can hang it. If you want to be a little more professional, purchase a kit to decorate an ornament. They have pre-made sets that give you everything you need to create the perfect holiday gift.

Compile a Playlist

Sometimes music can be the best gift you ever give someone. Think about the person you are giving the gift to. What kind of music reminds you of them? What kind of music do they enjoy listening to? In this digital age of iTunes and music downloads, it should take you about an hour to fill a CD with songs that are just right. After burning them, decorate the CD. This gift can be played for years to come.

These are just a small list of what’s possible for holiday gifts. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. It’s not the amount of money you spend, it’s the thought that goes behind the gift.
