ST. PETERSBURG, FL (June 22, 2017) — Valpak, a leader in local print and digital coupons, is excited to announce that Saturn Booksellers, an eclectic local bookstore in Gaylord, Mich., won the grand prize in Valpak's Shop Small Contest. The bookstore, in business for more than 25 years, was selected the winner from among 1,400 entries submitted by Valpak consumers.
Saturn Booksellers and owner Jill Miner will receive a $5,000 American Express® Gift Card and a Valpak advertising package. The store was nominated for the top award by Darcie L., also of Gaylord, Mich., who said it's "my favorite place on earth!"
Darcie said in her contest entry that Saturn Booksellers has great customer service, a fine selection of books and the "coolest gifts and toys that you can't find anywhere." She also said Miner is community-minded and frequently participates in local fundraisers, gives discounts to libraries and teachers, and brings in best-selling authors. For submitting her winning entry, Darcie also receives a $5,000 American Express Gift Card.
Three other small businesses won secondary prizes in the contest:
• The Columbus Idea Foundery in Columbus, Ohio, a center that provides workshop space for local hobbyists and budding entrepreneurs.
• Baxter & Me in Corinth, Miss., a neighborhood gift store that displays the work of local artists and features local products.
• Club MMA, Cincinnati, Ohio, a mixed martial arts and fitness program for both kids and adults.
Each of these businesses will receive a $1,000 American Express Gift Card and a free 3-month Valpak advertising package.
The contest was a way to highlight the importance of local businesses across the U.S. and urge consumers to Shop Small, a nationwide movement to celebrate small businesses that help our communities thrive.
