Players (4):
The Princess - female, 7-8 yrs., a free spirit with a kind heart
Balthazar - the dragon as voiced off stage by a male 8-9 yrs.
Officer 1 - male, 9-10 yrs., a dedicated officer to the King
Officer 2 - male, 8-9 yrs., a dedicated officer to the King

(An enchanted forest, where legend has it The Dragon Balthazar lives. The forest is lightly wooded. The princess is behind some trees up center stage right. A young boy dressed as an Officer of a royal court enters stage left. He is Officer 2. He announces the name of the play.)
Officer 2: The Dragon Balthazar.

(He quickly exits stage left. Moments later he returns stage left with Officer 1. They are searching for the Princess.)

Officer 1:
Princess...

Officer 2:
Princess!

Officer 1:
Come forth and show yourself.

Officer 2:
Oh, the king will have our hides if we don't find her.

Officer 1:
Well look high and low and keep your voice to a whisper. The Dragon Balthazar lurks in this forest.

Officer 2:
Maybe the princess encountered the dragon...and her grisly demise.

Officer 1:
Don't think such wretched thoughts.

(Officer 2 spots the Princess behind the tree)
Officer 2:
Look, there! Behind that oak. It's the princess!

(They rush over to her and bow. We now see that she is carrying a silk bag.)

Officer 1:
Your highness. What are you doing so far from the castle walls?

Princess:
Searching for gold.

Officer 2:
Gold? But your highness, you have a king's ransom in gold at the castle.

Princess:
Yes, but finding it in the most unexpected places is far more enjoyable. Look...

(She takes a gold nugget from her bag and hands it to Officer 2.)

Princess:
See? I found this nugget behind that tree.

Officer 2:
Why that is quite pleasant.

Princess:
You may keep it.

Officer 2 (bowing):
Thank you your highness.

Officer 1:
Enough of this. We must return you to the castle at once before The Dragon Balthazar feasts on our souls.

Princess.
Silly old man. That's just a fairy tale.

Officer 1:
One that I do not wish to be part of. Let us away.

Balthazar (Offstage):
ROAR!

Officer 2:
Balthazar! He lives!

(The Officers and Princess turn and run. But the ever curious and adventurous Princess turns back to see if the legend is truly real. The Dragon slides in stage right and is now just a few yards from the Princess. We see a boy off stage who voices the dragon.)

Balthazar:
I should eat you for giving away my gold.

Princess:
I'm sorry. I didn't know the gold belonged to you.

Balthazar:
The forest is my home. Everything in it belongs to me.

Princess:
My apologies.

(Balthazar says nothing.)

Princess:
What do you do with it?

Balthazar:
The gold?

Princess:
Yes.

Balthazar:
Nothing.

Princess:
Then it is worthless.

Balthazar:
You are brave to speak to me in such a manner.

Princess:
Gold is like friendship. If you don't share it, then it has no value.

Balthazar:
No one has ever shared friendship with a dragon.

Princess:
Then I shall be the first. (Bowing) I am Kate.

Balthazar:
And I am Balthazar. It is a pleasure to meet you...my friend.

(She approaches The Dragon and places her hand on his head. The Officers suddenly return from stage left with swords drawn.)
Officer 1:
Princess!

(She turns.)

Officer 1:
What are you doing with that dragon?

Princess (smiles):
Finding more gold.

(The Officers look confused)

Princess:
I always seem to find it in the most unexpected places.

(We cut to see the Princess' smiling face captured on her father's phone. It's a beautiful shot. He opens the Valpak app and finds a Valpak Deal for a frame store. He presses "Buy Deal From Valpak." He smiles.)

ANNCR (VO): Find the local savings you want, right when you want them.

(We cut back to the stage. The kids are now taking their bows. Mom and dad give them a standing ovation. We cut to a close up of their smiling daughter. Then we fade to blue and the Valpak logo.)

ANNCR (VO): That's the power of Valpak.
