4 Easy Ways To Have an Eco-Friendly Party (And Save Money!)

It’s easy to automatically think “expensive” when you think of having an “eco-friendly” party. That’s some crazy health-nut stuff, right? The opposite is actually true. Being eco-friendly in this case actually means saving some money. And who doesn’t like to save money and help the environment at the same time?

When I have guests come over for parties or meet-ups, they are always excited to try out my “health-nut” stuff. They usually leave my house realizing that I merely do simple things that anyone can do.

Here are 4 simple tips for having an eco-friendly party:

1. Choose to shop locally for the foods that you prepare for your meal.
I love this tip, because it turns into a big win for everyone: You win by saving money at the farmer’s market, the farmers win by getting the support, your local economy wins by you keeping your money local, and the environment wins at the same time.

2. Go buffet style!
Buffet style salads, fruits and finger sandwiches are the perfect to help you save money and keep things eco-friendly. I recently attended a wedding where everything was served buffet-style, and noticed how so much excess waste was eliminated with this method.

3. Use reusable dinnerware and cloth napkins with your spread.
This is a great way to keep less waste out of landfills, and you’re going to save money by not having to buy excess disposable items. And as an additional tip, if you are just serving light sandwiches as finger foods, you can serve them on simple tea cloths. It always makes things look so fancy, and your guests will feel like they are getting the special treatment.

4. Store leftovers when the party is over.
Make sure you use reusable eco-friendly containers for storing your foods instead disposable things like plastic wrap and foil.

Old mason jars and spaghetti sauce jars are great for storing leftovers! And if you’re lacking in the reusable storage container department, you can pick some inexpensive ones up at your local thrift store.

With just these four simple tips, you’ll be well on your way to doing your part to help the planet. And don’t you just love the added bonus of saving money?
