5 Frugal Wedding DIY Ideas

Planning a wedding is EXPENSIVE. Here are some easy DIY ideas that are not only frugal, but add a personal touch to your day. They’re both fun and affordable!

Wedding Idea #1: Fancy Shoes
These do-it-yourself crystal shoes are a fun way to make you feel like Cinderella on your special day. The best part is you can use any shoes: your old favorite broken-in flats, cheap pumps from a thrift store or something you snag from the clearance rack. Once you buy the supplies, you can make enough for your bridesmaids and your flower girl! The flower girl’s shoes can be used later for dress-up play as well.

Wedding Idea #2: Rustic Cake Display
Looking for a dramatic display for your cake? Instead of one big cake, opt for smaller cakes decorated with varying shades of your wedding colors. You’ll not only save quite a bit of money that way, but they’ll look rustic-chic when displayed on logs such as the ones pictured above. Other frugal rustic wedding accents you can use in your DIY theme include burlap, twine, Mason jars and terra cotta pots.

Wedding Idea #3: (Nearly) Free Luminaries
Did you know that underneath each label of Classico pasta jars is a really cool old-fashioned Mason jar? Start stockpiling them (and ask friends to do the same) and you can use them for a really cute rustic centerpiece to use on your dining tables or as luminaries to light the walkway to your reception.

Wedding Idea #4: Guest Book Alternatives
Instead of a guest book, have guests transcribe their well-wishes and marital advice on large river rocks with a thin black sharpie. Display them at home in a large glass hurricane vase. Another fun idea is to have guests sign pieces of a Jenga game.

Wedding Idea #5:  Colorful Photo Booth
Instead of silk ribbons to create a photo booth backdrop, try streamers. You can find them at the dollar store in a wide variety of colors. White and gold looks classy along with your wedding colors. Add balloons, flowers or miniature white lights behind them.
