5 Makeup Trends to Try this Fall
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year…for makeup!
The colors get darker, the products get lighter, and the gift sets get cheaper!
I am excited for all the Holiday Gift Sets that are being released this year.
You can score a great deal on a number of products from your favorite companies.
I’ve got my eye on the Tarte Cosmetics Holidaze Set, and the new Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Collab (set to launch Nov 22nd)!
In the meantime, here are 5 trends that cropped up on the runways of fashion week!
- Dusty Rose Lips:
Dusty rose and lavender lips are going to be the THING this fall! In particular matte colors! The industry has moved away from glosses and shines for lips to a creamier, matte look. Many liquid mattes and suedes have been produced and will continue to be huge! Check out NYX Cosmetics Suede Liquid Lipsticks (available at Ulta), Sephora Brand Cream Lipsticks, or Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (both available at Sephora).
- Graphic Liners:
An avant-garde trend has begun to capture the attentions of Makeup Addicts all over the world.
It’s a play on traditional eye-liner.
Some place dots below the middle of their eyes, some create sharp lines, while others line their eyes with several different colors. Sephora has caught on to the trend and published a tutorial on their blog, The Glossy. Brands such as Clinique, Anastasia Beverly Hills, NYX Cosmetics and Benefit Cosmetics have launched a line of colored eyeliners. They are really extraordinary looks!
Kimmie K may have given us contouring, but the everyday Makeup Addict has given us strobing. Strobing is the application of highlighter to create shimmering/glowing skin. The highlight product is applied to the bridge of the nose, temples, cheekbones, corners of the eyes, and in the cupid’s bow of the lip. It serves as a less exhaustive way to draw attention to that bone structure!
Using just one product, instead of three (at the minimum), strobing is easier and more cost effective than contouring. There are several highlighters out there to create this look. Smashbox’s Soft Lights is a baked powder, or give Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick a try!
- Feathery Brows:
In 2014, courtesy of starlets like Cara Delevingne we saw the emergence of the Power Brow!
That trend has given birth to Feathery Brows, a more natural take on the traditional thick dark brow of last year.
A feathery brow is more natural looking, slightly overgrown but groomed brow. Some of us are naturally gifted with this look, but for those of us who have sparse brows (Me, me, me) we have to create this feature with products. Benefit Cosmetics is one brand that has their brow game on part. You can visit a specialist at the Brow Bar in some Ulta Locations or use the Brow Genie for assistance. NYX Cosmetics (available at Ulta) is also flexing their brow muscles with their Tame & Fame Brow Pomade. The key here is to keep it natural!
- Bronzed Shadows:
Enter the bronzes! Fall runways featured lots of looks created with shimmering browns, metallic and bronzed eyeshadows. It’s a more dressed up version of the neutral eye! The colors nearly all skin tones, and eyeshadows and a synch to apply! The looks can be created with one shadow, or three depending on your mood. Urban Decay (available at Sephora) is known for their Naked palettes which allow you to create this look, or you can go the budget friendly route and grab the E.L.F. (available at select Target Stores) Prism Eyeshadow palette!
