6 Things to Do with Kids at Fiesta San Antonio 2017
Fiesta San Antonio is an annual festival that started in 1891. The inaugural Fiesta celebration was a one-day parade event honoring the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. While the city still commemorates those heroes, the festival has grown into a multi-day, Texas-sized celebration featuring San Antonio’s rich culture and unique history.
Fiesta San Antonio is full of fun for all ages. However, there are some specific events that are designed just for kids. From parades to carnivals and everything in between, there’s something for everyone so bring the whole family and celebrate Fiesta! Here are some of our favorite events for families:
1. Texas Cavaliers River Parade
One of the highlights of Fiesta San Antonio is the Texas Cavaliers River Parade. Thousands of people will line the banks of the San Antonio River to watch more than 40 festively decorated floats drift down the river. This parade is unlike any you’ve ever seen before as it is one of only a few in the nation where the parade floats actually float! Each float features music, dancing, favorite children’s characters, military installations and more.
The event is on the San Antonio River Walk on Monday, April 24 from 7pm-9pm CST. Admission is $14-$26 and tickets are available for purchase at The Texas Cavaliers Office. If it’s not in the budget to bring the family, this event is broadcast live on local station KSAT. The proceeds of this event goes to children’s charities throughout Bexar County.
2. The Battle of Flowers Parade
The inaugural Fiesta San Antonio began in 1891 with the Battle of Flowers Parade. The first parade had horse-drawn carriages and bicycles covered in fresh flowers and children dressed as flowers rode on all the floats. The Battle of Flowers continues today with flower-filled floats, horse-drawn carriages and bicycles, but has expanded to be more spectacular with music, dancing and dozens of sparkling floats. The Battle of Flowers Parade is truly a spectacle that shouldn’t be missed!
The event is on Friday, April 28 at 12:20pm-4pm CST. Tickets range in price from $12-$25 and are already on sale at the Battle of Flowers website and The Fiesta Store® beginning April 7. This event is also broadcast live on local station KSAT.
3. The Fiesta San Antonio Carnival
You can’t have a fiesta without a carnival! Head to the Alamodome for one of the best carnivals in Texas. There are rides and thrills for kids of all ages…and admission is free! Carnival rides can get pretty pricey so your best bet is to check out Wade Shows, the carnival operator for for promotions, ride height requirements and all the available attractions. The carnival is open starting April 20 from 6pm-11pm CST in the Alamodome Parking Lot.
4. Family Fiesta

There will also be food trucks and all kinds of yummy treats. Admission and parking are free. Some attractions and food cost $1-$6.
