1. Washington, DC

You may be thinking that Washington DC is anything but affordable as a huge city, but there are plenty of things to do that are cheap or free. The biggest expense will be getting there either by car, train, or plane. Affordable hotel options are available near mass transit systems giving tourists access to plenty of free museums, parks, and monuments.

2. Atlanta, Georgia

This heart of the Southwest region is well known for having the busiest airport around making more of a possibility for cheap airfare as airlines compete with each other. Atlanta offers many beautiful parks, trails, and outdoor areas that will keep visitors busy. Enjoy some southern cooking as well as the many festivals that are in the city as well.

3. Charleston, South Carolina

Enjoy the slower pace of this historic southern city that features cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages in the ultimate nod to Southern hospitality.
