7 Best Outdoor Activities To Do This Summer
Today marks the Summer Solstice — and while school has been out for a few weeks, it’s now officially time to celebrate! From relaxing days in the park to trips with your family or friends, we have you covered.
Have a picnic Take advantage of the beautiful day outside, call one of your best friends, or favorite family member, head to a neighborhood park (or just your backyard) and have a picnic! Grab a picnic basket — head to your local grocery store and stock up. We recommend heading straight for the deli and bakery sections — usually they have some really great pre-made salads, pastas, cheese and bread. Grabbing pre-made dishes will save you time and take the pressure off of having to make anything.
Go berry picking Is there an area near you that grows fresh berries? Many cities have local farms that you can go and pick your own raspberries, strawberries, blueberries or any other fruit you can think of.
Start an herb garden (or any garden) A quick trip to your local Lowe’s or Home Depot will give you all of the supplies you need to grow a garden. Make sure to consider your climate in order to get the correct kind of seeds or plants for your region. If you have animals, consider a hanging garden so that they can’t dig it up. If you want to bring a little of the outdoors inside, plant an indoor garden.
Have an outdoor dinner party The longest day of summer is coming up this week, so it’s the perfect time to take advantage of the extra time. Blow those leaves off of your patio, spray down your patio furniture and invite some of your close friends over. Whether you decide to grill, or have a potluck, great company will have you laughing and visiting well into the night. Does your patio need to have a little upgrade first? This ultimate patio guide will help you to create just the space you dream of.
Go for a bike ride or hike Grab your bike, or your hiking boots and go explore your neighborhood. If there is a nearby place to hike like a mountain, or wooded area — jump in the car and satisfy your wanderlust. Turn off your electronics, observe nature and relax. If you are an avid bike rider, grab your mountain bike, head to the trails and go crazy. Bonus — both of these are excellent exercise.
Go camping Grab a sleeping bag, tent, cooler and some food, and venture out to your local campground, or head to the woods to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Relax with a good book Set up a hammock in your backyard, under a tree, grab that book you’ve been meaning to read, make a delicious drink and take it all in. Make sure to do this on a day where you don’t have anything planned — because you will probably enjoy this one so much that you lose track of time.
Bonus points if you do two of these in one day — try taking a hike ending with a picnic at your favorite scenic location.
What’s your favorite summer outdoor activity? Whether you decide to do something simple like have a picnic, or go with an event like a dinner party or camping — make this summer memorable by doing something you haven’t done before. Venture out, take chances and enjoy life!
