DIY 4th of July Tissue Paper Pom Poms
Every year for the 4th of July we love having people over to barbecue and swim, and I’m always looking for inexpensive ways to decorate and create a festive environment without spending a fortune.
These adorable tissue paper pom poms have quickly become one of my favorite ways to decorate for just about any occasion or birthday party! You can make these in just a few minutes and they are a great inexpensive way to decorate on a budget.
You can use any tissue paper that you already have on hand, but I like these packs of colored tissue paper from Hobby Lobby, they are priced at $0.99 each and they often go on sale for 50% off! These come in about 25 different colors so it is easy to coordinate with just about any party theme or color combination.
To get started, unwrap the tissue paper and leave it all stacked together. Start at one end and fold about 1″ up and use the back of a spatula to press down the crease and make a tight fold.
Continue folding your paper like an accordion until all of the paper is folded. Then, fold the paper in half and tie a ribbon around the center of the tissue paper.
Use scissors to cut the edges of the tissue paper into a point. This isn’t necessary, but it does make for a more finished look in the end.
Begin pulling apart the tissue paper one layer at a time. Pull the outside layer to the middle and alternate between sides to create the round ball shape.
Once you finish separating all the layers of your tissue paper you will be ready to hang your decorations! Another great way to use this same process is by starting with smaller sheets of tissue paper, cut them in half or quarters to make small pom poms and hang them on a garland for another great festive and inexpensive decor idea!
All totaled, I spent about $2.50 for the three pom poms. Each package of tissue paper cost around $0.50 and the ribbon was $0.99. Such a fun and frugal way to decorate when you are on a budget. I love the look of the red, white, & blue pom poms hanging from our ceiling. We are ready to celebrate the 4th of July with friends and family!
