Love it or hate it, fried food frenzy has swept the nation. Where better to find your favorite fried foods than a state fair? From the traditional funnel cake to deep-fried sweet tea, nobody does fried quite like they do in Texas. So, where better to find the latest introductions into the world of fried foods than the State Fair of Texas?
Take a look at some offerings from the State Fair of Texas’ past. You just might find some of these at concessions this year. The fair will be open September 29 – October 22.
These might pique your interest, they did ours:
Deep-Fried Sweet Tea
A staple on the south for sure. Sweet tea is brewed and then mixed into a custard filling. The custard is then dipped in a graham cracker crust and deep fried. Before serving, it is topped off with a sweet tea syrup drizzle.
Texas comes to mind when you hear “Laredo.” This Texas dumpling starts with ground beef that has been browned and seasoned with a delectable blend of Mexican spices. It is then wrapped in an Asian dumpling and fried. Served with Pico de Gallo, sour cream, salsa and a cheese sauce that is to die for.
Fried Sriracha Balls
Fried deliciousness is more like it. We know Texans like it hot so this one should be no surprise. Shredded chicken, green chilies, tomatoes and corn combine together with Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce. Before hitting the fryer, the mixture is rolled into balls and coated with crushed tortilla strips.
This really is amazing! All of our favorite things rolled into one, or more, mouthwatering morsels. Fry this! Rolled into balls, chocolate cake and frosting, bacon pieces, and maple syrup. Then, yes please, deep fry it! Sprinkled with confectioners’ sugar, drizzled with maple and chocolate syrups, and finally topped with bacon pieces. YES!
Texas Fried Bacon Jalapeno Bites
Let’s wrap up those last two with more bacon and more heat! Fresh, crisp jalapenos mixed with apple-smoked bacon, cream cheese, spicy sausage and aged parmesan. They’re coated with jalapeno bread crumbs before landing in the deep fryer and served up hot with jalapeno lime ranch sauce.
