How to Throw a Budget-Friendly Party

image-party-1Just because you have a small budget for your celebration does not mean you cannot go all out and throw a big bash with exceptional decor and memorable ambiance. With thoughtful planning, you can create a remarkable experience for your guests and save money at the same time!

Perhaps the easiest way to create a comprehensive party is to pick a fun theme and run with it. Encourage your guests to enhance the mood by participating with costumes or accessories that compliment your chosen theme. Some theme suggestions that are easy for guest participation include:

  • Football Game/Team
  • 80’s
  • Luau
  • Downton Abbey Dinner Party

There are a plethora of tutorials online for creating extraordinary party decorations with dollar store purchases. With some plastic table cloths, streamers and balloons, it takes just a little elbow grease to create a stunning scene that will certainly impress your guests.

If you are not feeling exceptionally crafty, Facebook local pages and Freecycle are great resources for finding gently used party supplies at a fraction of the price, or even free!

First and foremost, decide whether your celebration will include snacks or a full meal. Minimal finger foods are typically the most affordable route, but there are certainly ways to incorporate a full meal on a smaller budget.

Don’t hesitate to make your event a potluck where guests can contribute to a buffet of goodness. With proper planning you can score great deals on food by shopping sales. Pick up paper products throughout the year as they go on sale. Shop after major holidays to stock up on clearance items, which usually includes a number of paper products!

Even when your budget is tight, there is no reason that your party or celebration should not feel like a million bucks! Most importantly have fun!
