[VIDEO] Why You Shouldn’t Toss Silica Gel Bags

You know what they are but not what they’re called. And you probably throw them out right away. Don’t! We’re talking about those little white square bags that come in shoe boxes. They’re commonly known as silica gel bags. No, you’re not supposed to eat them, but they are nontoxic.

The little beads inside are a powerful desiccant: they absorb many times their weight in moisture to keep items dry. That’s why you’ll also find them in boxes containing expensive equipment like computers and cameras. You may have used similar products, like Damp-Rid, in your closets.

There’s no need to go out and buy more shoes; instead, buy silica gel bags cheaply in bulk on Ebay (get free shipping here), or from specialty electronics stores like Adorama cameras.

Whatever you do, don’t throw them out until you’ve seen this video.
