The Buffalo Zoo is a great place to take children and spend time with family and friends. The Zoo provides a great venue for family outings, recreation and education. Our 23.5 acre urban zoo has the distinguished honor of being the third oldest zoo in the United States (est. 1875), and it houses some of the world's most exotic, endangered, and even local wildlife. At the Zoo, animals move freely in large and modest enclosures with trees, streams, pools, and other natural-like features. We house a wide variety of animals representing all corners of the earth and have even been known to occasionally invite a traveling koala or white alligator.

Conservation Mission The Buffalo Zoo is dedicated to conservational education and currently plays an essential role in a variety of local, regional and global conservation efforts. Education is a vital part of the institution's mission, enabling the Zoo to teach people how they can help save our world's wildlife.
Education Programs at the Zoo The Education Department has the exciting responsibility of promoting public awareness of the natural world and its conservation through fun, interactive learning experiences. To accomplish that task, we provide a variety of general and specifically tailored programming at the Zoo and in the community for children and adults of all ages. Many of our programs use live animals, biofacts, tours, and/or crafts to give our audiences an educational experience to be remembered.
