The Shadowfax Corporation is a private, non-profit human services agency that supports individuals with disabilities. The Corporation was founded in 1985 to provide high quality and caring services to individuals with disabilities in residences throughout York County. We are governed by a volunteer board of directors representing a cross section of the York Community.
Shadowfax strives to provide individuals with a supportive environment which cultivates trust, open communication, and teamwork. This allows individuals the freedom to showcase their talents. We embrace and promote the values defined in Everyday Lives for each individual. These values are choice, control, permanency, security, freedom, prosperity, individuality, relationships, recognition, privacy, citizenship, and passion. We encourage each person to become an active member of their community through volunteerism, employment and recreational activities. Self-determination is the guiding tool for each individual to live life to its fullest.
At more than 30 houses across York County, our trained and dedicated staff members take an active and supportive role in the lives of individuals who live there. Individuals receive assistance with learning skills, increasing capabilities, and achieving goals that lead toward a more productive life. These skills could include: Personal hygiene care, Meal preparation, Home maintenance, Banking and Community involvement.
We offer a variety of programs and supports people can choose from. Working at a restaurant, going to a ball game, shopping, going to the zoo, relaxing in a sensory room, learning new skills..you name it, we have it. Staff are committed to meet the needs, interests and desires of each person. Each person's program is designed by the person and a team of people who care. Team members include families, caregivers, friends, staff, professionals, and others who will be a support for them.
